Ship named after Blair McKeil
The latest addition to Burlington, Ontario-based McKeil Marine's diversified fleet has been named after Blair McKeil who served for a long period as President and CEO until selling a majority interest in the company to TorQuest Partners in 2016. Formerly a second generation owner of a family business, he now serves as Vice Chair.
The Maltese-flagged Gagliarda, a 14,600 DWT general cargo vessel built in 2010 recently purchased by McKeil, is a close sister ship to the Evans Spirit and the McKeil Spirit. It was renamed the MV BLAIR MCKEIL during a ceremony on June 7. It will trade throughout the Great Lakes.
The Gagliarda had arrived in Canada with a cargo of road salt from Egypt destined for Picton, Ontario and Monroe, Michigan.
"The Gagliarda pays homage to the legacy of McKeil Marine by taking the name Blair McKeil, honouring the industry leader who successfully grew the business his father (Evans) established in 1956," said Capt. Scott Bravener, President of McKeil Marine. (photo McKeil Marine)
