Groupe Desgagnés orders
two more tankers

2015-12-21

Groupe Desgagnés of Québec City has announced a contract with a Turkish shipyard, Besiktas Gami, for the construction of two chemical tankers, with an option for two other identical ships. This is in addition to a previous order from the same yard for one asphalt tanker, the Damia Desgagnés, and one chemical tanker, the Mia Desgagnés, scheduled for delivery in the latter half of 2016. The two additional chemical tankers are to follow during the summer and autumn of 2017.

"We are very proud to highlight that these vessels will all be propelled by dual-fuel engines allowing the use of liquefied natural gas (LNG), marine diesel oil (MDO) or heavy fuel oil (HFO)," said Desgagnés President Louis-Marie Beaulieu. "This will be a first for merchant vessels in Canada and will clearly demonstrate Desgagnés' leadership in the Canadian maritime industry."

The 15,100 DWT asphalt tanker will have a carrying capacity of 13,350 tons at 7.8 meters draft. The 15,100 DWT chemical tankers will have a carrying capacity 13,725 tons of oil or chemical products at 7.8 meters draft.

Each vessel will be equipped with a Wartsila 5RT-flex 60DF propulsion engine and will be ice-classed Polar 7. (Photo Groupe Desgagnés)
