Port of Oshawa "fully intermodal" with new rail spur

2015-04-08

The Oshawa Port Authority announced on April8 that a long awaited rail spur to the east wharf has been completed and is ready for traffic.

"The Port of Oshawa is now fully intermodal," commented Donna Taylor, President and CEO.

"This new development will create more business opportunities for the port," Ms. Taylor told Maritime Magazine.

The original CN rail spur which ran into property north of the Port has been refurbished and upgraded by CN.  McAsphalt Industries and the Oshawa Port Authority partnered to extend the spur into the Port onto the east wharf including an additional 300 feet of special dimensional move track.

Connecting the harbor to the main rail line will allow cargo unloaded from vessels to be transferred directly onto rail and vice versa.

Highway 401 is just 2 kilometres from the Port - rendering access and egress fast and efficient. The Port can accommodate any vessel that can transit the Seaway System and CN rail now serves the port for regular and oversized cargo, the Oshawa Port Authority said.  (photo OPA)
